A total of 43 million smartphones were shipped in India during the July-September months according to the latest Canalys Smartphone Market Pulse report. The figure represents a 3% drop compared to the values from a year ago but Canalys notes that the improved consumer confidence and the launch of several high-profile smartphones will likely lead to positive growth ahead of the festive season.
Brands outside the top five like OnePlus, Infinix, Tecno and Motorola saw impressive growth from their expanding presence across India. As a whole, the entry-level segment performed the best in terms of shipments with new offerings offering 5G connectivity. Premium phones from Samsung and Apple also saw robust growth with attractive offers during the festive sales events.
Samsung retained its market leadership with an estimated 7.9 million shipments and 18% market share. Xiaomi came in at a close second place matching Samsung’s market share figure while shipping 7.6 million smartphones. Vivo rounds out the top three with 7.2 million shipments and a 17% market share. Fellow BBK Group companies Realme (5.8 million) and Oppo (4.4 million) came in fourth and fifth respectively.
